Stargazing in Bryce National Park

DSC_0094.JPG

When I was in grade school my mom used to wake me and my siblings up in the middle of the night to watch meteor showers or to see a solar eclipse. Sometimes I would get up, and other times I would stay in bed defeated by my sleep cycle. There were nights we would see tons of bright streaks cross the sky, and there were nights where we cursed the dawn because we had school in a few hours and didn’t even get a glimpse at space’s beauty. Nevertheless, my mom sparked my interest and curiosity of space. Living close to many towns with bright lights really dampens the stars at night. There have been few times that I have been able to see the millions and millions of stars that fill our universe. While we were in Bryce Canyon I had the opportunity to sit back and gaze at the stars with my classmates. Nothing can compare to the peacefulness and wonder the night sky brings. So naturally I attempted to capture the moment with my camera. The moon was really bright so it actually made it difficult to capture all the little diamonds. But with a few tries, and some tips from our fellow photographer, I successfully captured my first photograph of the stars. Needless to say, there will be more where this one came from!

What about you? What is your favorite memory of stargazing?
